Committee Hearings in the Legislature.
Friends:

The Senate Education and General Government Committee will be hearing two TAG bills on Tuesday morning at 8:15:

SB 312

of Public Instruction for approval. Click here.

SB 622

equivalent employee to administer talented and gifted program.

OATAG supports both these bills. SB 622 would restore the Regional Planning Groups that existed to plan staff development before the funding was cut in 2002.

I have received a request from Sen. Metsger's office for the names of those who are planning to attend the public hearing on these bills and testify. Sen. Metsger is the chief sponsor of SB 622.

In particular, we need to have students and families from smaller or rural districts participate in addition to those who have already let me know they are coming from larger districts.

Please let me know if you can come. My phone number is 503-774-7017 or you can reply by e-mail to margaretdelacy@comcast.net .

If you plan to testify it's a good idea to read the bills first, so you know exactly what you are responding to. Links to the bills are below. For other information about hearings see http://www.leg.state.or.us/citizenguide/

A good turnout for this hearing will have an impact on TAG programs in Oregon for years to come.

It is worth missing school to attend!

In addition, the House Education Innovation committee will be holding a public hearing on HB 2606 at 1:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon in Hearing Room D if you wish to stay for that.

HB 2606 "Directs school districts to award high school diploma to students who have satisfied graduation requirements in less than four years. Allows students who have satisfied requirements for current grade level to advance to next grade level."

There are some drafting errors in the bill that need to be corrected but I will be testifying in favor of this bill for OATAG.

Thanks

Margaret
