Legislative Update - House Bill 2587
Feb 07 2007 Filed in: Legislative
Regarding a bill that would create a TAG "Task
Force" that would meet until the next session and
then be disbanded
I received this message a few minutes ago from
Representative Tomei (she's my representative)
concerning a bill written by Rep. Buckley.
The bill would create a TAG "Task Force" that would meet until the next session and then be disbanded. Members would be appointed by the Superintendent for Public Instruction. The task force would report to an interim education committee of the Legislature.
As you may recall, I discussed a similar proposal with Laura and Marge and then passed it on to Representative Whisnant who didn't like the idea. I had no idea Representative Buckley would write such a bill until it came just now. He may have gotten the idea from the TAG parents at the last education committee hearing (I did tell you that you'd be surprised how effective it can be to just turn up!)
OATAG has no official position on a TAG advisory committee or task force. I certainly think it is a great idea but I would like board permission to seek support for this bill. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know ASAP whether I can go ahead and work on this on your behalf.
Thank you,
Margaret DeLacy
